From a youth tournament on New Year's Day to more than twenty years at the HKFC 10s. We're still piecing parts of this together; if you can fill a gap, please get in touch.

  1. 1967:

    Where it starts

The New Year's Day Youth Rugby Tournament begins when Vernon Roberts arranges the first Hong Kong v Overseas Schoolboys match at the Hong Kong Football Club. OSOB grew out of this tournament.

  2. 1986:

    The HKFC 10s begins

The Hong Kong Football Club stages the first HKFC 10s to celebrate its centenary.

  3. 1997:

    Unbeaten New Year's Day teams

Teams coached by Rob Wright and Tony Pannell go unbeaten at the New Year's Day tournament between 1997 and 2002.

  4. 2004:

    First HKFC 10s

Numbers were so short on the first morning that Rob Wright went into the HKFC gym and recruited a player off the treadmill.

  5. 2005:

    First silverware

Men's Bowl winners, beating China Agricultural University 17–0 in the final.

  6. 2008:

    Three Shield finals

The field is cut from 24 teams to 16. OSOB reach the Shield final three years running, from 2008 to 2010.

  7. 2013:

    The A-Trade years

The team plays as A-Trade Overseas Old Boys, backed by A-Trade Finance and its founding partner Lawrence Webb. The name lasts until 2024.

  8. 2016:

    Men's Plate winners

Seeded 12th, OSOB beat Irish Vikings and Devils Own Shanghai in the pool, then Projecx Waterboys 14–10 and Taikoo Place Scottish Exiles 17–10 to win the Plate.

  9. 2018:

    Back in the Plate final

Wins over Classic Wallabies and Pyrenees take OSOB to another Plate final, lost to Samurai International.

  10. 2020:

    A pause

The 2020 tournament is cancelled amid unrest in Hong Kong, and Covid stops the next ones. The HKFC 10s returns in 2023, and so do we.

  11. 2023:

    Back in the Cup semi-finals

The HKFC 10s returns after three years, and the club's records have OSOB in the Cup semi-finals. We're still looking for the match results.

  12. 2024:

    Unbeaten in the pool

OSOB win Pool C, lose a Cup quarter-final 7–8 to Ashbury Tropics, and reach the Plate final, lost 7–10 to Taikoo Place Scottish Exiles.

  13. 2026:

    Cup semi-finalists

Back in the Cup semi-finals: wins over Ashbury Tropics, Taikoo Place Scottish Exiles and Rugby Tens Selects, then a 12–17 defeat to Froggies Club.
